Freeriders!!!

Ok before we go into details let me define what free rider means in B-school terminology, technically speaking, ok sorry, managerially speaking free rider is an economic term where people consume their share of resources without sharing its burden of cost. let me give an example to make it more clear, actually now a days i am getting most of my Class Participation points by giving examples so better stick to what is working, so the example goes like this, Its duty of government to provide defence to every citizen, but free rider may refuse to pay for this, and he will have same defense from the state as well as for those who pay for it!!

Now lets come to real definition, free rider is a person who refuse to contribute in group assignments and have his share of grades as received by his groups, in other words free rider is a perfect managerial material. Their is clear difference of opinion in my batch regarding me being a free rider or not. My batchmates thinks i am a freerider, i think i am not, so you can see its 50-50 for both sides.

When i go to group meetings it happens like this
Group 5 section A People - Kullu yeh blah blah assignment hai, tu itna late kyun aaya
Me - Theek hai chalo assignment kar lo!
Group 5 section A People - Tu assignment karega

Me- (to the people comeing after me) - yeh blah blah assignment hai, tu itna late kyun aaya/aayi
Group 5 section A People - Tu assignment karega

Me - har baar toh main karta hoon!!! pichle 4 assignment maine kiye hain, we are not doing any favour to anyone, why does we always have to show others that we are doing their work, can't we give collective efforts, off late our grades are getting a hit
Group 5 section A People - Tu assignment karega

Me - Ok, I and ...... will do it.

Night before assignment submission
me in gtalk
Me - Hooda thr??
Hooda - yup
Me - yaar yeh assignment mujhse nahin hoga!!
Hooda - kyun
Me - Yaar bahut thak gaya hoon, neend aa rahi hai, aaj tu kar de, plz!!
Hooda - Get it from seniors
Me -(seniors se mil raha hota toh thakaa thode hota!!!!) seniors ke paas nahin hai
Hooda - Net pe search kar
Me- (net pe mila hota toh neend thode aa rahi hoti!!!) net pe nahin mil raha!!
Hooda - Emma ko bol de!!

Me - Emma thr??
Emma - yup
Me - yeh assignment nahin hoga mujhse!!
Emma - aaj Manchester United ka match hai, main nahin karoonga
Me - abey woh toh kal bhi tha
Emma - Manchester united is playing matches everyday!
Me - wth...saale kaisa free rider hai tu!!
Emma - KK ko bol

Me -KK thr??
KK - don't ask me to do the assignment!!

Next day in the class - submission time
Hooda, Emma and KK cordinates among themeselves to complete the assignment.

Thats what management is all about, using your human resource to get them do what they never wanted to do, to make them realize that organization's goal could never be achieved without their help, and when it comes for next assignment you can always claim that it was you, who had completed the previous assignment

PS - All characters in this post are fictitious (including me!!!), any resemblence to any person living or dead is purely coincidental.

PPS - This is no way related to the real functioning of group 5 section A PGP1 of IIM Indore.

PPPS - I hope profs never ever come near to this blog.

Yaar dil pe matt lena...lekin I hate freeriding and want to kill freeriders. Otherwise, I think this will be useful for people who would be coming to IIM Indore(for any other IIM, for that matter)...to know the grass root levels of managerial excellence. Loved your sarcasm.

Nice read kool!

Shows the passions and frustrations of an MBA-2-be while hetrudges through the path full of trials and tribulations...at times he becomes a torchbearer...at times free-rider...ultimately he attains nirvana when he finds his group grades all F****d up!!
